| Remnant Advertising -Remnant Radio Advertising & Remnant TV Advertising |
Many small businesses today are interested in purchasing remnant advertising. The reason is pretty obvious: it is usually much cheaper than traditional station or agency rate cards.
The problem with remnant radio advertising and remnant TV advertising inventory is that 90% of the companies selling it out there do not tell you what you are buying. Remnant advertising is typically marketed as “cheap spots”. The unsuspecting small business owner will compare a price quote from a company selling remnant TV or radio spots to, say, a local radio station price quote. One quote could be $50.00 per spot and the other quote could be $10.00 per spot. To most small businesses, the answer seems clear: take the cheapest quote. The problem with that is that TV & radio advertising is not like buying a washer or dryer, so you can’t compare price quotes. A remnant spot does not have a static national “street value”. $5.00 for a remnant commercial may be a complete rip off and $60.00 for a remnant commercial may be a great deal. The same basic principles apply to remnant advertising as to any other type of TV or radio advertising. You must know what you are buying. Spots are just airtime, and airtime is worthless. The amount of people (impressions) that will see or hear the commercial each time it runs is all that is important. Most remnant advertising companies do not (or cannot) provide average impression data to you.
At Wholesale TV & Radio Advertising, we always make sure our clients are properly informed about the amount of people (impressions) each radio station or TV channel will deliver. Then we go down the path of helping them determine what an effective remnant bid rate would be and the likelihood that a station will or won’t accept it.
